HOW TO CARE
How We Wash
- Always check your garment label for washing options.
- Set your machine to a gentle, cold wash.
- Avoid overloading the machine with garments and only wash similar coloured, similar fabric pieces together.
- Turn your garment inside out and place in the washing machine.
- Use a mild detergent - such as a Wool Mix where required - but avoid Softener.
- Do not tumble dry.
- Dry as per hand-washing instructions
- Always check your garment label for washing options.
- With a warm, damp, light-coloured cloth, press into the stain gently. Do not rub or scrub
- Soak the affected area in cold water if required.
- Avoid detergents and stain removers as these can cause bleaching and discolouring.
How We Dry
- Give your garment a shake out and dry it on a hanger, avoiding direct sunlight
- Do not tumble dry
- Always check your garment label to ensure it is Dry Cleanable.
- When it comes to blazers, dry cleaning is always the best option to remove stains and re-establish shape.
- When collecting your Dry Cleaning, avoid taking the plastic garment bags which are generally non-biodegradable.
- Transfer your garment to a wooden or padded hanger in your own wardrobe.
- Note: Linen is generally not to be dry-cleaned. Refer to ‘Spot Cleaning’ or ‘Hand Washing’ in this case.
How We Store
- Always ensure drawers are dust free to prevent marking or dust settling into your garment.
- Fold heavier garments (wools etc) first at the bottom of the drawer.
- Alight linens and cottons on top to prevent extra creasing.
- A great tip to prevent rubbing between garments is to place a light piece of tissue paper between levels of folding.
- Always opt for a wooden coat hanger for woollen garments and a padded coat hanger for linens and cottons. Avoid wire coat hangers that can cause pulling and shape deviations around the shoulders.
- Allow enough space between garments when hanging. If you are tight on space in your wardrobe, hang fabrics together keeping linens next to each other, wool next to each other etc.
- Open your wardrobe doors daily, ensuring no direct sunlight hits your garments where possible. This will help air out your wardrobe and prevent any moisture accumulating.
How We Prep
- A handheld steamer is a great investment, removing the need to make contact with your delicate garment (as with ironing) and a quick step to reboot the shape and drape of your garment in between washes.
- Always read the instructions on your steamer and hold away from your garment.
Store tailored garments, such as jackets and trousers, on sturdy hangers to preserve their shape.
- Seek out a reputable seamstress close to home. One that is referred by friends is always best!
- Always try your garment on with your alterationist to ensure your goals are achievable.
